Where every dollar goes

How Etsy's fees actually stack up

Etsy doesn't take one fee — it takes several, and they hit different parts of the order. For a US shop selling in US dollars, each sale pays:

Listing fee — $0.20, charged again when an item sells and the listing auto-renews$0.20
Transaction fee — on the item price, the shipping you charge and gift wrap (not tax)6.5%
Payment processing — on the whole order, including sales tax3% + $0.25
Offsite Ads — only when the buyer came from an Etsy ad on another site; capped at $100 per order15% (12% at $10K+/yr)
Currency conversion — only if your listings aren't in your bank's currency2.5%

The trap is Offsite Ads: for shops under $10,000 a year in sales you can opt out, but above that it's mandatory, and you don't get to choose which sales it applies to. That's why this calculator shows your worst case before you set a price.

Rates are for US sellers and were checked against Etsy's published fee policy on October 7, 2026. Payment processing rates differ by country. Etsy Ads (on-site ads) are a budget you set, so they're not included per sale.

Questions sellers ask

How do I work out what to charge on Etsy?

Add up what each sale costs you — materials, packaging, the shipping label (or the POD base cost) and your time — then decide the profit you want left over. Because Etsy's fees are a percentage of the price, you can't just add them on top; you have to solve for the price that still leaves your profit after the fees take their cut. That's what "What should I charge?" mode does.

Why does the calculator suggest prices ending in .99?

Prices just under a whole number read as noticeably cheaper to shoppers, so the suggested price is rounded up to the next .99 — you never earn less than your target, usually a little more.

Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?

Partly. The 6.5% transaction fee skips tax, but the 3% payment processing fee is charged on the full order total including any tax Etsy collects. It's small, but it's real, and most calculators leave it out.

Should I offer free shipping?

Etsy favors listings with free shipping in US search, but "free" just moves the cost into your price. Set "Shipping you charge" to 0 and put your label cost in — the calculator rolls it into the price for you, fees included.

Is anything I type saved or sent anywhere?

No. The math runs entirely in your browser. The only place your numbers go is the link you copy, if you choose to share it.
